working with water
« on: August 14, 2013, 02:02:02 pm »

My last project with water almost worked ...
tapped the brook at z-1 into a 1x2 shaft with floor grates at each z (essentially small rooms with access stairs and floor drains all stacked over each other) to avoid flushing dwarfs by accident ... as planned I did produce a small amount of mist ... but initially I had some flooding at z-2 as if the water did not come straight down the hole ...

my next plan is a touch more grand .... so I was hoping to iron out some things beforehand:
1) the wiki says the falling water generates mist .... but is that only if it hits something?  eg water falling 3 z's does it create mist just at the bottom?  or in the middle as well?
2) does water erode?  or rot?  Am I ever going to run into trouble with my pine pipe in the screwpump?

Falling water generates mists as it falls, it's a bit random, though.

Water doesn't currently erodes or rot things. Ice will break anything that's underwater and pop off well and grates on top of it.

1. Water creates mist when it hits something.
2. Not outside of world gen.
