Don't forget that immigration is dependent on fortress wealth.  Artifacts contribute heavily to this.  Also, some nobles won't show up without your fortress being worth enough.  Some of you are probably now thinking that this makes artifacts even more worthless.  I think it's fun though.

But other than that, yeah.  Artifacts make for insanely awesome weapons, and are great for making instant royal quality rooms.
