Nobles abusing their power.
« on: July 30, 2013, 02:12:46 pm »

I recently reached a point where I have a pretty good sized fortress going, and I am trying to get it to stay that way until the new feature allowing for peaceful retirement. Which means my nobles have time to just sit around, and you know what they say about idle hands. My mayors are almost constantly elected from within the ranks of my legendary miners since whenever they aren't mining they have time to socialize with the children, and you know what they say, the dwarf that holds the children holds the election. The mayors want weapon racks, nickle weapon racks, My area doesn't have a reliable source of nickle so I have to trade for it, and they don't want them built they have wanted them in their office which now has 12 Nickle weapon racks, I had to dig out an additional room, just to put the stupid weapon racks in there. That and my Baroness, always holds meetings in her room, but I have noticed that whenever the Liaison leaves that she gets the happy thought "Took someone to bed recently"..... I think my baroness is abusing her power in a creepy way.

Man, it sucks that it is up to me to give you this news, but what exactly makes you think your current fort's save will be playable in the next version?

Clearly, our top dwarven scientists are hard at work creating a new breed of SUPER WAGON that can survive being scuttled by enemy wagonmancers! These new super wagon troopers will be able to carry TWICE the cargo, be 1/3 the size, and NEVER scuttle!

You know you could put and then remove those weapon rack once it's in the room and they're happy with it, if they're demanding one in there? A bit gamey, but it works. And if weapon rack are being mandated, then just crack a few out and sell it along with other stuffs to the caravan when it's not being banned. Or if you don't trade much, make it out of metal you don't care about and melt it back down.

They're not quite smart when it comes to stuff being put into their room, I don't even bother to pay attention to it, not furfiling it don't makes them unhappy as far as I can tell :D

Also I'm pretty sure the next version is save-breaking version with how much it changes things and adding sites.

Basically this. I doubt that any current saves will be compatible, or playable to any degree other than broken up the wazoo, with the next release. For starters trees being completely overhauled is likely to seriously impact on your world, as well as possibly the overhauling on movement and attacking.
You can still try, of course, but it doesn't seem to me like it will work for you: you'll have to generate a new world to use when the update comes.

I usually don't bother with the hassle with mandates and demands. My nobles are happy enough without fulfilling those.
