Can your local area be enlarged in-game?

I gave myself a small area with the mindset that by doing so I would be able to start exactly where I wanted to. I didn't realize that I was actually setting boundaries. I'm guessing I have to restart, right?

Aye, there is no resize available after your dwarves set up camp. You will have to restart.
