Opet Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

It's a lot of fun, and mods really add a lot more features to it.

Not so much on the trading side, but if you want macro/micro management, the current Humble Weekly Sale has Democracy 2 and Kudos 2 in it.
http://www.humblebundle.com/weekly

Democracy 2 is trying to balance the demands of a nation as the policymaker and Kudos 2 is like The Sims, except on the far edge of micro-ing an individual and less visual stimulation.

I rather liked Democracy 2, I just didn't like how no "real" nations were provided. You can only manage "templates" of various countries that have parallels in real life but not the countries themselves. For me, this made a somewhat realistic game feel wholly unrealistic and that sorta killed enjoyment for me.

If you're into Sci-Fi games; check out StarTopia.  You can get it from GOG.com.   Managing your money (Energy Credits), workforce, station cleanliness, and of course doing all the trading yourself, deciding what you want to manufactor in your factories... sometimes there can be a bit too much micromanaging. Haha.

Master of Orion 3 is all about micromanagement, though it's been poorly received.  Never played it myself.

Wall Street Raider - by far the best financial/stock market/corporate takeover simulation I've come across

Capitalism/Capitalism II - pretty good games of manufacturing/retailing/rebranding, available on gog

I highly recommend the first one. II is basically first game with better graphics and arguably better interface (some say its better some say its worse, or much worse like me) with a few of the features removed (like building between cities - you only have city maps in II, while there is a world map in 1 with climate zones, building positioning to balance transportation costs etc.). Only thing better in II were few fixes to stock market.
And I haven't seen better economic game ever since. I still got a perfectly preserved CD from now non-existant polish gaming magazine "Gambler".

If you want multiplayer, there is browser game called "Economies of Scale" ( http://www.ratjoy.com/ ). Simple, easy and with infinite exponential growth, although quite fun. However it takes a lot of time to get results of your work and cooperation between players is limited. That game really suffers from "not enough mana players". It leads to little resources on b2b (business to businnes) market or extremly high prices, so everyone just want to produce everything they need by themselves (maybe with the exception of 2 most common resources). It doesn't help that you can sell most items in retail (to non-player population) at least for 10x cost of production over reasonable time (time to get next batch out of factories).

Victoria 2 is quite good on the macro-economic side simulating the entire world during the industrial revolution.  It's an interesting game in that production doesn't have value unless it actually finds a buyer, who in turn needs a revenue source, and so forth with the only source of new currency being gold mines.  Try the Pops of Darkness mod.

Thinking about playing cap 1 again I found something interesting on: Capitalism LAB. It is Cap II with many new advanced features and by looking on it seems worth getting (still no world map).

I am creating an economic sim type game now. Sadly its pretty slow going. C++ is not great for UI libraries, and I had to give up on multi-threading, certain graphical improvements, although its already like WC3 level graphics, and more in order to get anything done gameplay wise.

Hopefully it turns out well. The economy is sort of like a mash up of victoria 2 and emperor rise of the middle kingdom and maybe some DF/CK2 type stuff with major characters that have stats for various stuff.

To expand on this, Capitalism Lab is a thing. It's basically Capitalism 2 with more.
