[STORY] Ancientdyes
« on: July 20, 2013, 09:01:53 pm »

So I decide to go with 0 items on a half good half evil embark. But the game decides to make it even more !!fun!! and it turns out I get to start out inside a dry murky pool with the wagon nowhere to be seen.

That's right I'm gonna have to fend myself without even the 3 tower cap logs.

Urist deserves to have his driver license revoked...

We rummage the plains in search for something to eat. It isnt long before we find some seeds and get our farms going. Top is sun berries, mid prickle berries and bottom is wild strawberries.

Can't even build a depot with no items at all so my plan is to survive long enough to get a miner migrant or woodcutter. But of course I get like 5 soap makers instead. One of the migrants has a crossbow but he wastes all his bolts in a rhino before I can stop him.

Uh oh! My custom world parameters just bit me on the foot. (Yeah I removed the pop/wealth requirement for titans... heh)

Oh well.

YOLO

CHARGE MY VALIANTS!!

REINFORCEMENTS!

But alas the mighty beast stands victorious.

Not without wounds however.

Defeated, we abandon the farms we worked so hard in and retreat deeper into the featherwood forest.

However, my men refuse to leave the wounded to die and the beast catches one of my peasants as he goes to take food to the wounded. It follows him towards our new camp.

But just as all seemed lost, the caravan! (those are macedwarves beating on the thing)

After having seen his family slain one of our men suddenly snaps.

He attacks with rage not unlike the titan, but we manage to put him down before he kills anyone.

Praise the brave warriors of the Mountainhomes! The beast has fallen!

But our small settlement lies in ruins, my fields withered, my friends murdered. My crew borders on insanity, and we still have not a pick nor an axe.

Awesome idea. I think I may have to try this, but probably not on an evil embark.

The Megalania titan, Theb Umelema emerges from the river to crush anyone who dares upset the balance of the forests between his mighty jaws.

Welp, looks like your best hope is for them to take joy in slaughter then.

My only hope is a lucky migrant wave with some sort of tool. I've modded all the vanilla races to be hostile to dwarves anyway so the clock is ticking before le wild elf ambush shows up.

The game will probably just send me another titan instead :D

Slowly but surely we started rebuilding our ruined home, piece by piece. We searched the withered crops for seeds and gathered the lifeless bodies of our comrades in a pile, unable to give them a proper burial.

But our bodies and souls bore scars that could never heal.

Even so despite the unthinkable conditions, some of our lads were starting to smile again somehow. "We'll make it thru! Ya will see!" The old fisherdwarf assured his comrades with a near tooth-less grin.

However he failed to inspire some of the more depressed lads.We watched the carpenter shift between rage and despair and knew it was only a matter of time before madness would claim his life.

Soon there would only be six miserable beards wandering the forest of feathers. Waiting for death to take them to Valhalla where their loved ones awaited...

Had Armok forsaken us?

I've begun to doubt of my own sanity. I can still see shadows and sometimes hear the voices of our comrades who fell battling Theb Umelema, as if they were locked in eternal combat with the beast.

I can still hear the titan's roar as the river crashes against the rocks.

I wish you'd modded your dorfs to be able to eat sapients.  Then at least the corpses of the fallen would have some use ( once you build a butcher's shop ).

I have plenty of animals to butcher, the problem is the complete lack of building materials due to no tools.

I had never seen the "Migrants were too nervous" message before and I just got it 2 seasons on a row.  :o Armok must really be laughing at those poor fools.
