So I'm having fun (not *fun* yet though ) in my fortress, just hit spring and expect to hit the magical population number 80 with the next wave of migrants, but I'm having a problem with my farmers. Specifically that they're leaving barrels all over the fields, and not picking up the barrels.

Yes, I realize this is a bug, but I was wondering if there was a workaround I could do with the LNB?

LNB?  You mean the LNP?

Depends on what version you've got.  However, the barrels aren't really a problem.  Did you recently have a thief or a babysnatcher come through?  They'll scare people collecting the plants.

What are the barrels filled with?  Seeds or Plants?  If it's seeds make your seed stockpiles not accept barrels.  They'll just use bags and that's more than plenty.

That's strange.. I don't have this problem.

Are you sure you have a food stockpile that can accept barrels, AND has plants enabled in the options, that has free space to accept the barrels?

If there are no stockpiles to accept the [plant barrels] created this way, the dwarves will drop them like hot potatos!

Alternatively, if they are EMPTY barrels, make sure you have a furniture stockpile to store them in! Dwarves will move a whole barrel full of bags of seeds to the farm plot, to stuff ONE seed into the ground. If the barrel gets emptied, and there are no furniture stockpiles, it will lay around as junk.
