Mysterious dwarf
« on: October 21, 2007, 04:00:00 pm »

I recently started a new fortress i had started to get everything setup when my metal smith arrived, i headed back to my bas to build him a bridge across when my eye was caught by a peasent in my base. after a quick count of dwarves i noticed i had 9 my original 7 the metalsmith and this mysterius newcomer, does anyone know where they might of come from? im pretty sure they cant be an immagrant because the only ford across the river leads to the north of my irrigation channel and the only entrance to my mine is south of the channel.

I've had the metalsmith come with a peasant buddy before.

The peasant is supposed to be the metalsmith's beloved wife/husband

I even remember seeing their childs tagging along once or twice...

It has been my experience that all rivers have fords. (Not all of them might in the game, but all of mine so far have.) I don't know why your metalsmith would fail to use one though.

I think my record has been with the smith, one peasant, two childeren, two kittens, a cow, and a dog. That's pretty big.

I think that there's always 3 passages. One near the gate entrance, one on the northern area and one on the southern part. Check better, you may find them.

Of course, it won't be the case any longer in the future version.

Yeah, my metalsmith had a wife and two children tag along with him in my most recent game.  Poor guy went mad when all three of them died in a goblin siege...

I started out a hermit fortress. Then, the metalsmith arrived with a wife and two children.
So I decided to make a different challenge: Family fortress.
I now have my original hermit, the metalsmith and his spouse taking care of 4 children (yes, two more were born in the first 3 years of the fortress + one miscarriage) AND the broker (who arrived after a wave of immigrants peaked my population to the required level before I sent them off to hunt elephants barehanded)

The challenge:

Options: max population=10
Starting build: 1 proficient miner
               1 pick
               1 axe
               2 dogs
               spend the rest freely
location: somewhere with (live) elephants

mission:
Start like a hermit challenge (kill 6 out of 7 dwarves),
breed as many dwarf children as you can with the metalsmith and spouse.
Abandon if you lose a child or a baby. Don't accept any more immigrant children. Drown them ASAP. Report on the forum and the Guiness book of Records if you manage to get the king in this way eventually! (Don't know if it is possible. Is there a max #of children for one specific dwarf or can they keep on breeding 'till they drop?)

With so many family relations the mental health of the mother would be very unstable!  If anything happened to any of them the whole fortress could tantrum at once!
