Diplomat arrived as a peasant. Wait, what?
« on: July 14, 2013, 09:11:09 am »

It's not a were-beast before anyone jumps to that conclusion, it was my initial thought but there wasn't the typical arrival message and it's listed as a diplomat (and arrived at the same time as caravans). I got screenshots to show what I mean. I've done some searching and can't find anything on either the diplomat or Peasant page on the wiki. Also can''t see anything related on a google search and gone through several pages of this forum without seeing a reference. Sorry if it's well known but just buried, I've been away for a long time. Only modifications is LNP with Phoebus tile set.

So yeah.... Played with this version of DF (34.11) since it was released and not had this occur, what exactly is going on?
Se doesn't trade, se's just hanging on the edge of the map and has a different name to the listed Liason on the Civ screen.

What I'm more curious about is why there are filthy goblins running your civilization.

I think it's normal to have diplomats with civilian title. I think I met cook liaison once.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Assuming goblins conquered in world gen. Despite almost 5 million dwarf bucks in assets, I've yet to trade a single item to any caravan (butcher elves because I'm sick of dealing with them, no humans but not sure why, and never seemed to successfully trade with dwarves so I pretty much gave up since by now I'm self sufficient) so don't have the monarchy here yet to throw into cages.

Getting monarch requires You to offer fort-produced goods worth of 7500 dwarfbucks to the caravan, only trading is not good enough.

Yeah I know, I meant I haven't had the option of trading. Every time I set up a trade depo it seems to trigger yet another invasion. Sure my godlike hammer lords wipe it out in no time at all but it means the traders never live long enough for me to give them tribute.

The first outpost liaison (apparently from last year) hasn't left your fort, and another one came with the next year's caravan. However, the second one can't claim the "outpost liaison" title since the first one still exists. Normally, once Ingish exits the map he/she would cease to be the outpost liaison (due to a bug) and the position would be open for others to take.

So why haven't you met with the first one yet? You kept Ingish waiting for 12 months?!

I was a little wtf, but ye, this seems to answer the question.

Dear Urist McStockpileDrone
I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

Unfortunately the "replacement" was eaten by goblins because he opted to stay on the edge of the map instead of the nice safe fortress.
Ingish made friends with the miners. I like my Nobles to be useful. Not sure why it took over a year for him to eventually meet with the manager though but something happened mid meeting to cause him to get pissed and leave. Tbh the only thing that stopped me me dropping him in the circus was I didn't want to fully breach it yet and deal with the demons.

I knew of the title being lost on leaving the map from when I used to play ages ago, just didn't know the details of how the title transferred so thanks.
Sorely tempted to release the demons onto the surface as protection from the rest of the world.

Can it be you dismantled the embark wagon and never defined a meeting zone/hall? Diplomats who aren't up for a meeting path to the meeting area and hang around there.

And for meetings to actually take place, you must give your chief administrator (exp. leader, mayor, baron/countess/duke, depending on what you have) some space. Meetings tend to bug out and get treated as spare time, i.e. they have _no_ job priority and get aborted for the most trivial pointless occupations imaginable.

Nah, I'm always careful to have a meeting hall designated. Currently got a nice waterfall pumped through to make some mist.
Manager  is my miner from the original party (one of two survivors only) but I've almost done no digging lately, just adding a few rooms here and there so he should of had months to talk to him.

Ingish has been replaced by Ingiz. I sense a pattern.

Yeah he has an office. He just doesn't seem to like talking to diplomats. He's got everything he needs but delays talking for way too long even when he's not digging.
Doesn't help I'm moving about 8-10000 items of clothing from the 1500~ corpses lying around and getting rid of ruined ones. He keeps running off to help with that over the years (300 dwarf fort is serious business, especially when 120 of that are babies or children who don't help with shit) which means the diplomat often takes up to summer to talk to him since he seems to ignore him even when idling.
