I am fairly knew to dwarf fortress i only got it yesterday but i managed to survive winter for the first time when my dwarves all started dieng of thirst, does anyone know why this is? i had 3 wells and a large store of plump helmets which my still was brewing, the river outside had defrosted and i had access to the cave river which they're supposed to drink from in ermegencies right? anyone got any idea where i went wrong?  :confused:

You sure you didn't have any dwarves trapped or locked away somewhere? (like in a workshop that was placed wrong, or maybe you locked a couple of doors and forgot about it?) If not, was anybody injured? If there were no extra buckets to bring them water with they could easily die of thirst, though you probably would have gotten a few messages about that beforehand...

the only doors i have are those leading to my farms which ive only locked twice (the 2 times i flooded the room) none of my dwarves were injured, i deliberatley chose a peacful map and gave thos going outside war dogs, i dont have any buckets i know of (apart from the 3 used to build my wells) do you need them to drink?

Free buckets should only be needed to give water to wounded dwarves. Healthy ones should drink out of rivers and wells if no alcohol is available.
