The Taming of the Goblin Vampire-King
« on: July 12, 2013, 01:46:45 am »

...is a sentence I never thought I would ever write.

Anyway, the Dwarven City of Likotlimar ("Ink-wealth"), founded at the frosty southwestern base of the Admired Horn peak, was a colony of the Construct of Souls.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Largely unremarkable aside from repelling (either through mechanical defenses or idiot conscripts) a few sieges from the Omukberi goblins, Likotlimar is subdivided into two (currently) boroughs; the Shallows, the original fort carved into the earth just beneath the surface, and Marblestrike, a newer, planned settlement a comfortable distance above the first discovered caverns - so named for the plentiful marble into which it was hewn.

Bridging them is a long, rather narrow mineshaft which ends at the Shallows end with the Sealed Garrison, an intended emergency redoubt before the deeper homes were dug. When not in total lockdown, the Garrison served as a barracks and archery range for two armored squads and ten marksdwarves until the most recent siege. The Shallows themselves are spacious, almost entirely smoothed, and have enough large (but mostly unfurnished) quarters to lodge the entire current population of 123 - but all workshops were damaged by a troll incursion, and the borough is currently littered with the carnage of the last siege. Marblestrike is newer, and designed for greater efficiency. A massive dining hall has a planned upper mezzanine to house private sections for the nobility, a dedicated furnace area has been created to speed metalsmithing, and an equally large number of quarters-spaces have been dug. Most rooms are totally unfurnished, however, and some stockpiles need designating.

Further complicating this is goblin army that nearly breached the Shallows stockpile a few months ago. The mess still hasn't been cleaned up. The military has been almost completely eliminated. Food stockpiles are still sufficient, so morale remains high.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Recently, with Solon Boatscontrols, the Entanglement of Straps (a war hero from the first goblin breach) becoming Inkwealth's baroness, it was decided to offer some of the many delicious meals cooked within the city's halls to the King for tasting, as an aristocratic gesture. Amazingly, the food turned out to be so incredibly delicious that His Majesty decided to come and grace Inkwealth with his residence so he could have more.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just kidding, he's a goblin vampire from the beginning of time. He'll probably eat us all instead.

How should King Sigun be accommodated? Should the second cavern be breached? Should the Shallows stay inhabited? Can the military be fixed, or should the fortress be defended some other way?

All these questions are up to you, esteemed advisors.

NOTES: Running the latest version with SethCreiyd's Chocolate. The game world is still Vanilla-flavored, though there are a far greater variety of creatures, plants, powers/secrets, etc. Some additional furniture and other mechanics are present, but by and large the game is indistinguishable from the base.

The title also refers to the fact that, as it says on the screenshot, our Vampiric Majesty is marked as "Tame", and does not appear to be going on Harmless Nighttime Excursions. The further implications of this glitch(?) are unknown.

Wow. Goblin vampire king - that's amazing.
Does he participate in fortress life - i.e. joins parties, isues mandates, does ocassoinal work? Or waves at the dining hall like any tame animal?
Is it posible to assign a throne rom to him?

And the most important - how does he react to goblin prisoner dropped on him?

Did you know that the Russian word for "sock" is "no sock"?
I just saw a guy with two broken legs push a minecart with a corpse in it. Yeah.
