[Solved] The Corpse won't move, why?
« on: July 11, 2013, 06:29:02 am »

so, i have a buffalo corpse laying in my "all-in" stockpile inside the fort.

When i realized that, i tried to butcher the corpse OR to move it to a stockpile outside (created a new stockpile outside and only gave it "animal" and "corpse").

None of my dwarfs goes moving the corpse neither to the butchery nor to the stockpile ... can some1 explain a noob why not?

i attached my save file (the save does not include my tries :) ), the buffalo corpse lays in the lower right stockpile and will soon begin to rot.

I did the same mistake yesterday, though I should know better.

You need to set up the butcher's stockpile to "refuse - corpses", not "corpses".

But i can play again :)

Short answer, you don't. There's a way, supposedly, and it involves a stockpile that can accept corpses, with a corpse in it, that is neither sentient nor rotten, near a butchers shop, with the "butcher a dead animal" job. But I have NEVER gotten it to work successfully. Ever. So I just don't bother.

You can't butcher tamed animals that have died. You have to slaughter them at the butcher shop to get anything from them. If they die by any other method, they'll just sit there in your refuse pile, unusable, until they rot to nothing. I don't know why.

Non sentient creatures killed by you can also be butchered.
