So, I just starting playing DF two days ago, and I am starting to get the spam with the farmer who cancels the plant seeds job because there are no seeds.
As I understand it, this is because someone else picked up the seed barrel.
So I looked this up on the wiki and stuff, and it said to have two stockpiles, one of which has no barrels and only takes seeds from the other stockpile.
I did that; I set the Barrels number to 0, I have it so it says Take from the other stockpile on the bottom. However, the menu button to toggle take from anywhere/take from links only is a ? symbol, and I do not know why. I would like help regarding this issue; I want the dwarves to bring the seeds in barrels to one stockpile, and then take the seeds out of the barrels and put them in the other stockpile.

Additional things: For some reason, some of the dwarves are taking bags of plump helmet spawn to my still. Plump helmet spawn is not enabled for brewing, so I do not know why they would be doing this.

Probably I am doing something wrong since I only started playing 2 days ago.

Not sure why the link error is occurring.  The plump helmet spawn bags are being brought to the still to collect the seeds left over when plump helmets are turned into dwarven wine.

I don't bother, personally, with the chained stockpiles.  Just setup a stockpile with no barrels near the plot.  You'll still occassionally get the spam, but nowhere near as often.

Dwarfs don't take things out of barrels/bins to put them in barrel/bin-less stockpiles.

The key to make stockpiles take from links only is [a].
Are you using a tileset? That might explain why the text isn't displaying properly.
