I just started a new Fortress and I was wondering about why my military has the option to equip (blowguns) (spears) and various (shields) despite my most certain lack of such materials. Where are these coming from?

That's a bug. Those items can be found deep in the caverns. Used to be that they showed up in stocks to but now they only show up in the military screen.

Pretty sure they can still show up in stocks. They're just forbidden, and you need to train your bookkeeper in order to find them.
