Browser games thread
« on: July 08, 2013, 05:20:22 am »

Hello guys!

I've been around for a while now and the time has come when I need your advice. I have a pretty crappy laptop at work and I need some cool browser games to keep the hours flying between Dwarf Fortress and stupid movies on Youtube. Anything will do as long as it isn't pay to win or mindless grinding.

Thanks in advance for good recommendations :)

Napalm is great if you enjoy hot and spicy foods. I personally enjoy some liquid nitrogen.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Somewhere around here there is a thread for The Kingdom of Loathing, one of my favorite browser games.

Battlemaster
Log in once or twice a day, only need to spend as little as 5 minutes... or more if ya like.  Kinda RP-centric.

PitofWar
Bloody descriptions and gladiator deathmatches.  Kinda went toward the pay to grind less side of things though... but hey, it could be entertaining for a bit.

I like perusing Kongregate-- the 'art' tag has quite a few gems (and a lot of, uh, not-gems, admittedly...): http://www.kongregate.com/art-games

I've tried out Illyriad. Community is indeed one of the greatest I've seen around. Very supportive to new players and generally nice ;) But im afraid its not really what I am looking for (but ill play a little more today, maybe when get through newbie phase it will uncover more potential).

I played Battlemaster for a while, back in Summerdale ;) But the battle system was a bit disappointing (90% of victory was army size, very little impact from leadership) so I left after a while when we got to Luria Nova. If anything changed I would surely give it another try.

Already tried Kingdom of Loathing and it was pretty fun (pure random) but I guess it was a bit too confusing and the gameplay itself was a bit repetetive.

Ill try out Warring Factions today, looked at it some time ago and it seemed like worth giving a spin. Also Card Hunter's description looks promising, but one at a time.

Improbable Island is fun for a while but I found that it grew painfully repetitive very quickly. Then again, I suppose I find that with just about all browser games. Kingdom of Loathing gave me the same problem. Are there any browser games with enough variation in gameplay that they don't get tedious?

I have been maintaining the Bay12 clan if anyone is interested in a revival of that thread...I don't play much myself but I log in enough to keep from dying of inactivity.

If you join Warfacts you should join Lost and send me a message telling me to get on caeleth.chatango.com. That way I can talk you through the confusing process of setting up your first two colonies. Lost is the place to go since the other Bay12 players joined Green which is closed. Sadly for one reason or another about half the people who joined quit, but about 4-5 are still going strong and contributing a lot.

Don't land your colonies until we talk. I am on all the time as mandated so I'll see any message pretty much instantly.
