Walling off underground lake edges
« on: June 29, 2013, 02:57:52 pm »

This is my first attempt at sealing off cavern edges that are submerged by an underground lake.  Searching around, I've read that cave-ins are the way to go, but I was wondering if there are any particular tips I should be aware of before starting.

Be wary of the water. If you don't do the cave-in quite as planned, I'm told it can, er, flood the entire cavern and a few levels of the fort.

I mean, it's not really that hard, is it? Anyone can wield a torch, it doesn't prove anything. Wearing flaming clothes on the other hand, or better yet, wearing nothing at all and being on fire... that is the essence of dwarfish behavior."

You can't cavein map edge, you need to use either magma or Moses effect.

As Di said, you can't cave-in right on the edge. But what I do is set up a cave-in a few tiles in from the edge. As long as you build your constructed walls to the collapsed rock you'll be fine

!!Science!!: Knowledge through magma

There's safe. Then there's unsafe. And then there's the average dwarf fort, which remains unrated because the OSHA inspector flatly refused to go anywhere within a dozen miles of the place.

Thanks for the info all!  I've got a magma pool nearby, so I'll use an obsidian dam to sequester the lake portion closest to the edge, drain, then build the wall.
