Dwarven marriage

So, I've had a few unfortunate deaths and I was wondering: Will my dwarves remarry?

Nope. Dwarves mate for life. Once a spouse is gone the remaining dwarf mourns* them for the rest of their life.

*Dwarven mourning consists of drinking and trying to be as ecstatic as possible.

Don't worry too much. Dwarves easily get over their losses if you give them a massive dining room and some tastefully arranged statues to admire.

Ah well, I suppose that's fine then, leaves room for my sole military dwarf to focus solely on his career as esteemed champion and sole defender of the fortress.

How about reproduction, while we're at it?
Does private rooming increase the chance of offspring?
I've noticed that during the 9 years of my fortress, there have been 2 marriages (both are widowers now though, military life is tough) and out of those 2 marriages 8 children have spawned, 6 of them to the same couple; The late sheriff with luxurious housing and his wife, the newly appointed broker, hoardmaster, adminstrator and sheriff.
The other children were presumeably conceived in the barracks as they are the offspring of two military dwarves

It's all that wrestling.

But I don't know that private rooming encourages it.  Most of the children spawned in my fortresses come from the barracks.

"And I call this picture 'Mommy and Daddy wrestling'!"

On that subject though, they should be able to have kids before getting married. I also stick to my suggestion(Doesn't have its own topic in suggestions yet) about dwarven prostitutes and bars. Give the traders a place to stay while they're there instead of just in the depot, and get a small income. Better yet, lock them in the room with the hooker. Drop food in as needed.

Yes they are a bunch of drunken unstable retards, but they're MY drunken unstable retards, and I will take care of them.
It could be worse, that cat could be alive.

Giving rise to the second-class citizen race of "Dwelves", for those moments when elven clarity of choice is muddled by dwarven spirits...

On an almost completely unrelated note, my dwarven one-man-army and widowed father of two is called Delbun Tombescort... A rather awesome coincidence, seeing as he's escorted both friends and foes to their tombs, figuratively speaking at least
