Masterwork question
« on: June 29, 2013, 01:42:25 am »

Because of the fact that slag is not a workable bar in the normal sense in Masterwork mod, I need an answer. My dwarf made an artifact slag root armor. It includes leather, two rough gemstones, and more slag. It weighs in at ~530 Urists in weight. Is this armor going to protect, and is the weight going to crush dwarves?

I don't know about protection, but it slow down your dwarves and they'll be passing out all the time from exhaustion.

You basically got an item for a noble. 530 urists is a lot, It's about twice the weight of a granite boulder. Though, with a high armor user skill the weight is progressively negated. In general I think the rule of thumb is unless it's weapons grade it's terrible for armor though. It's also the same for edged weapons, I believe. Blunt has its own little rules though.

If you're inclined to get the real truth you could go into arena mode and make some armor out of slag for a group and pit them against copper clad dwarves. keep tweaking the slag groups armor user skill, and armor layout, to see if they can survive better.

There's a Masterwork mod sub-board on the modding forum.  Slag is terrible, especially against edged weapons.

I figured as much. I have to say, it is a strange material to make it out of. I wish he had used some of the mithril bars laying around two Urists away from his shop. No! He had to travel up five flights of stairs and across two burrows to grab a piece of slag!
