Question marks after quantities of food
« on: October 29, 2007, 10:27:00 pm »

My food is listed as:

Meat: 30?
Fish: 20?
Plant: 10?

and so on. Question marks. What do those mean?

I think it means that those numbers are estimates. You have to set a dwarf as a noble (n) to be a manger or bookkeeper (my guesses they make the most sense) then as they get trained I'd imagine those numbers get closer to the real value and maybe eventually the exact value.

Appears to do that for all stocks, not just for your food.  So, it's likely that you'll need a bookkeeper before any of that makes sense.

I started out with a dwarf who has  record keeping.  After setting him as the bookkeeper and giving him an office he will occasionally take a break from mining and sort my stocks list.

Once you select a bookkeeper (you should start with one preselected), you need to set the precision level higher (it's from n -> s over bookkeeper I think).  Then they need an office to work in.  You'll find they learn far too quickly, but it gets your numbers corrected.

I don't understand the bookkeeper settings screen.

All the bit about 7777 --> 8888 etc.

Wtf does all of that mean? :O

the numbers just mean how accurate it is. it shows when it will round off and give you a ?.

If you don't understand them, just realize that higher precision is better, and medium is high enough for most forts.

think of it like this.

At the lowest precision all numbers get rounded up to the next highest  i.e.
Lets count stones for example, 77777 stones will be rounded to 80000.

Therefor as your precision gets higher, the number it gets rounded to goes lower e.g.
at high precision, said object with 77777 of this object would get rounded to 77780.

And at the highest precision that object will not be rounded.
