I've always thought this was a nice feature, but never wanted to make use of it because I've played the original XCOM: UFO Defense.  Naming folks after real people, then watching them get smeared by heavy plasma rifle fire, blaster bombs, alien grenades, magma, goblins, &s or anything else just doesn't feel right to me.

Nope.  Kitten tallow biscuits, and puppy steaks don't bother me a bit. If I ever get an artifact sock I am going to build The Temple of The Sock and see how long my fortress will survive its insatiable appetite.  I just don't like "dwarfing" real people.

But don't worry; I fully recognize it to be a failing in myself and not everyone else.

I request either a hauler or a doctor or both.

If a doc I request to be named Doc Zubb Mackentire, forget mackentire if it dosen't fit.

Like some other guy said if you don't care to bow to my *MANDATES* then just name him zubb and have him do whatever.

I prefer to be buryd but thrown in a hole and slabbed is fine.

One finale thing, don't let my dorf be enslaved by the cat menace, at ALL costs DON'T.

Lalasa your profession is an engraver...sorry if that isnt what you wanted...if i posted a picture of the dwarf list it wouldn't really help because i edited all of the labors on the dwarves, so their profession titles don't match up yet...maybe once they get more skill in those labors i will post one!

It saddens me to tell you all that the fortress is lost...I have saved all of the names on my computer and i am going to start fresh and rename all of you!  I am very sorry that all of your dwarven profiles were lost, and the deaths were not recorded because of a tragic crash of my game.  I am very sorry but i still have hope that the next fortress that you are all in will be bigger, better, and even more successful then this one was.  Again I am very sorry.

No problem.  I was trying to set up a fort with my cousin the other day and the game crashed twice, first because I accidentally pressed the off button on her PC's keyboard, and second because a random power outage killed it.  Since saving forces a quit, we had to redo the fort three times!

I can't wait to meet my new dwarf.  ^^

that's funny because it was a power outage that killed mine!  I think somebody ran into a pole in my neighborhood...they have no idea how many alcoholic midgets they just killed

DFhack has a "quicksave" command that'll save the game without exiting. It is, in a word, amazing.
