I don't think you can stud the base metal with more of the same metal.  I run into that frequently with stone crafts and stone cabochons, or glass crafts with glass gems.



This is correct. However, the average fort has enough goblinite and elfin clothing to make a decent export base, and more so if it's all studded with masterwork copper decorations. Also, if he replaces all his stone/wood furniture, that's another large pool to choose from.

Train up your smiths on copper. Unless of course your soldiers are already using masterwork steel gear? And of course if you have any ranged militia, copper bolts are superb for them.

Children you rescue shouldn't behave like rabid beasts.  I guess your regular companions shouldn't act like rabid beasts either.
I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.
