How should I go about making a mount mod? (Using dfhack)
« on: June 19, 2013, 11:44:24 pm »

So I wouldn't have a problem with creating a creature that looks like a person on a mount, but the problem comes with the body swapping. How should I go about making it when a person interacts with a horse, it saves both the adventurer and the horse, but swaps them out with just one "mounted" version. Then if I type a command in dfhack it swaps them back to the saved horse and adventurer?

One way i can imagin this sort of working though not entirely as described.

Create a new type of  Boot called 'mount' or something.

When wearing the boot AutoSyndrome transforms the dwarf into a 'mounted-dwarf'  with extra speed and extra horse 'parts'  and horse based attacks.

To ensure a dwarf not 'mounting' 2 horses only the left boot should be modded as mount (the right one could be a normal boot called 'riding boots' (so you can make a uniform with ridingboots and a mount).

The using a horse part is probably not possible as a workshop reaction (maybe as a butchering mod?)
However a trick which i think is possible is to procure 'mounts' though hunting.

create a new ranged weapon and ammo (tranquilizer darts and blowpipe) which can be used by your hunters.
The ammo of this weapon should have a autosyndrome which 'transforms' the hunted animal into the 'mount' boot (or a reagent needed to create the mount).

you could alternatively go for a frankenhorse mount :)

sound like something Urist would at least try :)

ie butcher a horse, then stitch the remains together again creating a frankenhorse mount! (the boot from previous post)

Its alive! (or is it...)

Heh, not exactly what I wanted, but if that's the best that can do. Thanks.
