Yeah it's true.

Did you guys have the copy of the game in the old-fashioned big box that came with a cassette tape that told the story of Bobbin's birth? That was sweet. I'm sure I still have it somewhere.

That's the box I had!  :D

(It was actually my stepmother's copy.  And I never listened to the tape.)

There's like a half hour voice-acted play on the tape that tells the background of Bobbin's mother creating him and then getting banishfigurated, and then whatshername, duck lady, teaching him how to use magic.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/32340/

$4.99!  You have to get it now.

...They turned the high-res smoothing up way too high on those screenshots though, and the game description is HILARIOUS because I think they just took it from the original box.  Look:
# Stunning, high-resolution, 3D landscapes.
# Sophisticated score and musical effects.

Okay, the music was GOOD (and the title is stuck in my head now ^^), but by today's standards?  Also.  These "3D landscapes" are from long before anyone had even heard of a Voodoo card, let alone Crysis, and the "high resolution"...teehee...

This is so awesome.

yeah, this was certainly one of the greatest games ever.  at the time, it was one of those "show off your system capabilities" things, with the art and sound.  People would get it so they had something awesome looking and sounding to show their friends how cool their Atart ST was...

Most of the SCUMM games were pretty darned good.  would be nice to see a little Full Throttle remake, too.

Remember, this isn't a remake!  Steam releases old games on a DOSbox platform, preconfigured specifically for the game in question.  Full Throttle should be quite possible.  The hard part is ALWAYS getting the rights worked out, which is hard because sometimes there's different rights owners for code, for music, for the name, even for the specific voiced releases of a game that's on both disc and CD.

Well the best part of Loom was that for the most part it allowed you to experiment with your spells even if you weren't going to do anything productive with them.

Tons of situations where you turn Cloth green with no effect.

Which sets it appart from most point and clicks where an object that does something other then the one solution it was intended for is useless. (Mind you a lot of spells seemingly don't work for no reason... The "Turn cloth Green" spell doesn't work on people's clothing)

The game had really nice music and I sure don't mind looking at those "3d" landscapes...they did a lot with bitmaps.

The hidden scene is where Cob lifts Bobbin's hood.  When you play in anything but Expert mode, the scene cuts away to Bishop Mandible on the balcony.  But on Expert mode, you get to see Cob meet his doom.

yeah, thats the scene.  I dont think it included an actual view of his head, just the guard melting like a nazi in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I guess if people (Disney?) are publishing these again, it wont be as easy to get copies to play on the SCUMMVM program.  That was a great emulator, played any of those old adventure games perfectly.

Even included the same sorts of "smoothing" you see on the steam screens, done by the VM player's engine.

Loom was always my favorite, but all those adventure games were pretty darn good.  To bad they never made the sequels they were talking about.  I think the developers said that they had rough plots outlined for a trilogy.  The dead blond boy from the forge was going to have his own prequel or something.

Still sad there isn't a Loom 2. The underlying plot hasn't been resolved.
