I've been wanting to test these waters for some time, now, but not until recently have I had the encouragement and motivation to actually go and make something of it.

I just published my first video today, and am curious to see what others think of it. It's part humor, part game play demonstration, all incredibly basic and the first video I've ever done. Despite that, I think it turned out well.

I'm still not sure where this might take me, but I loved every minute of it, from recording to watching bits over and over again so only the good stuff made it in the final cut. I learned a lot, but I'd like to know if anyone has any suggestions or critique about my video. I'm not asking for you to subscribe or like it or anything, so don't feel like you have to. Unless you do. Then you can certainly do that.

Things I know about:

Background noise. This was actually from a friend who I was on voice chat with, and I'll do what I can about that. I doubt I'll ever have to deal with background noise on my end, barring unexpected children appearing out of nowhere.

Low resolution. It was my first time recording with Fraps, and I still haven't figured out all the nuances of the video editing software I have. Any suggestions in that field would be more than welcome.

Thanks in advance!

That was quite enjoyable. I would watch more.

The screen was a bit busy at times - the comments weren't always easy to read in time.
Overall, though, it was well done. Audio balances were good, etc.

I found it humorous, and it made me more interested in the game.

The humor honestly seemed rather "Meh", and I didn't think there was anything particularly interesting. It has potential though, just find a group of friends you're close with and play plenty of co-op games and practice making entertaining videos. You should do fine, just don't ever try to force humor or laughs, it never works.

Thanks for being honest.

Initially, it was just intended to be a highlight reel, but it meandered into a humor clip as I was editing it. There wasn't a whole lot of interesting stuff going on besides the weird conversations and random stuff that happened.

I don't expect to be the next Total Biscuit, but if I can entertain or inform a few people I'd take it as a success. I'd like to do reviews/commentary eventually, but that's something I probably need to build towards. I'm not quite used to the idea of having in-depth, one-sided conversations with my computer yet.

The reason the captions were so wonky (Besides my own ineptitude) is how bad Windows Movie Maker is with them. You can only put one text box up for "captions" at a time, and it's not nearly enough for what I wanted to do at several points. Even more frustrating, comments will stick to the times they were attached to rather than the part of the video they were attached to, so if I wanted to, say, trim a bit of the video or add something I have to move every single comment that comes afterwards. I've been looking for other options, but nothing's caught my eye. Any suggestions for good video editors (Preferably free, but every suggestion helps) would be more than welcome.

Honestly, being popular due to humor alone is very hard for most people. Your best angle would probably be commentaries, if you're talented/knowledgeable about a certain game/genre then start making videos about them.

Well, I found it funny. It was entertaining enough that I watched it all, despite never having seen/heard of that game before and most likely never being able to play it anyway! :D
Pretty sure I laughed out loud at *WHACK* "Sorry officer.. Oh wait he's not dead." *BLAM* "...Sorry."

But then again, I rarely watch these kind of videos, so I am hardly an expert.
Also, watching people play multiplayer generally reminds me of good times spent splitscreening it up on 64 with friends, back in the heady days of yore, so there's that too.

Basically, you can ignore my useless comments, but if you made more videos, would I watch them? Yeah, probably!

Okay, I finally sat down and did a review video for Gunpoint. The game's already two weeks old, so I'm not exactly a trendsetter, but I'm expecting to move over into the commentary/review department. I figure if I do more humor videos they'll come out naturally like the first one.

I'm getting the hang of this video editing thing, but since this is a different kind of video I just want some more opinions on it. Is the audio alright? Is the commentary focused enough? Do I stutter too much? Is my breathing too loud? Do you feel more informed about Gunpoint? Am I asking too many questions?

Also: I expect to do this somewhat regularly, but would it be annoying to link my videos in relevant forum topics (Such as linking this video in the Gunpoint thread)?

I have a tendency to summon walls of text, and I figure videos would be a good way to vent some of the things I have to say about games and such while promoting myself a tad. I just don't want to come across as desperate or annoying.

Again, I appreciate it. This has been fun for me, but it's hard to get good feedback.

I liked it, besides a few nitpicks I think you did a good job with the editing (Although all you really needed was switching from different gameplay clips, still a good job) and you summed up the game pretty well. My only few complaints is as you mentioned the occasional stuttering, which is easy to fix by just re-doing it until you feel as if you perfectly conveyed what you were trying to say without any stops. My second complaint is a small one, and it's generally the tone of voice. It sounds sort of laid back and a bit distant, and (in my opinion) when you're doing a review you should take a more engaged and professional voice. Audio was fine, the commentary was fine, everything overall was pretty decent.

At this point, I just suggest you start cranking out videos at a regular basis to get practice in both using your video editor of choice, and to get a feel for what works and what doesn't work when making videos on youtube.

I approve of your videos. I'm  not very good at critiquing, sorry.
