remember that bug where items get pushed by magma or water still exist but disappear from view?

i found a way to counter it using another bug

build a wall or floor near the disappeared items, then deconstruct it. BAM, watch as items materialize under where the deconstrcuted wall/floor and are visible again

the bug is also useful of getting items out of sealed rooms (like the magma wash chamber)

Why didn't I think of that?

I am intrigued.  I'm off to pull stuff out of a pond.

I am of the opinion that genius and insanity are actually quite similar. This post only strengthens that opinion.

You can accomplish the same thing without using a bug.  Simple mass designate the area for dumping d->b->d->dragbox (if above ground first do o->r->o).  Make sure you have a dump zone active (use i->enter->enter, then q->g on the zone).

Tested it out.  Dug a pit next to the pond.  Built a wall and deconstructed it.  Pulled all the stuff out of the water.  Win!

This is my new favorite bug feature.  I hate stuff getting stuck in the bottom of ponds.

Would a bridge work?  Pull lever, it scatters items, causing them to move and making them visible?

Huh. So that item-teleporting thing isn't DFhack-related side effects, but actually a bug in the game? This is good to know.

i dont have a bridge at the bottom of my magma washer... only ramps and floor bars
i discovered this while changing the wall layout at the bottom of my washer

In fact, DFhack comes with a fix for the bug. Try "binpatch apply deconstruct-teleport"
