Not to throw a wrench in this, as it sounds awesome, but wouldn't having a decayed version of every item kill the framerate?
I mean I know that Masterwork made its fps better by removing all the different variants of meat, wood, etc. so adding a decayed version of everything sounds like an fps kill waiting to happen.

Another use could be to make booze more realistic.
Depending in the type of Alcohol, the drink would have to stay in a barrel before turning into actual booze.

Ooooh. Yes, this would work, and let you have your brewery as a zone or stockpile as well as allowing the implementation of aged liquors really easily.
