You should make several garbage dumps since hauling stone takes very long time. I usually set one dump for ~10 tiles. After everything is cleaned, you can reclaim the dumped stone by pressing d-b-c, like mass-dumping.

Not needed.  The dwarves have no problem hauling 100+ items to a single garbage dump simultaneously (provided you have that many available dwarves, of course).  I usually have only one garbage dump available at a time, always single-tile.

If you don't mind the "quantum stockpile" exploit.

Pack all those stones into a single tile.
Enabling wheelbarrow on stockpile allows you to limit the number of haulers hauling stone around. They're also useful in making sure that your haulers haul those stone fast (hauling stone by hand is very, very slow).

DUMPING!?

Don't be ridiculous!

Word of the day: "cabochons"

Put those lazy jewelers to work! Make stone cabochons, and then encrust the living daylights out of everything.  Adds to net worth, makes legendary jewlers and gemcutters in short order, and gets rid of all that stone.

Dumping is just plain wasteful.

Dumping's still good for getting it out of the way posthaste, when your mason/craftsdwarf/jeweler hasn't gotten to that particular rock yet.  I don't think anyone has recommended dumping into magma.  :P

Also, it may be a basic but he still has to learn it. Maybe you shouldn't be so condescending.

Given that he has the username of a twelve year old metalhead, I wouldn't expect  too much from him.

I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

I always use a 1x1 dump area, and then d-b-d the entire corridor. If I need stone, I undump them and done.
