old age and living longer
« on: June 02, 2013, 02:20:04 pm »

i don't like when my dwarves die of old age, so i attempted to increase their age in the raws.  it didn't work.  can anyone explain to me how to make my dwarves live to be 250-300?

Change [MAXAGE:150:170] to [MAXAGE:250:300]. Make sure to generate a new world though, as you're changing a creature.

First number is when DF starts checking for their death (It's a chance every year), the second is the age they are forced to die (I believe).

Be careful with this though, if they don't die, you'll eventually end up with way too many dwarves running around. Perhaps add some !!FUN!! or something

they die of OLD AGE! GREAT SCOT! I've never had a dwarf (or human) die of this manner in my forts, they die alright, but never like that. I know I have a special elixir that when drank gives the consumer immortality, however they may never pass the age of 21 their body will age. Death of old age never, but they will look like santa klaws after 100 years pass

toxic, i changed the raws in my save file.  how do i generate a new world and have the new age already in?  you need to generate a world before you mod it.

you need to generate a world before you mod it.

that's almost exactly backwards :)

changes to your
raw/
folder affect all future worlds

changes to your
data/save/regionX/raw
folder affect only regionX, but you are limited in what you can do since so much of the data in raws is read before world gen; there is a sticky thread about it in this subforum.

thanks everyone in the thread.  i'll keep my current fortress, and once the new version comes out, i'll mod that one before i create the world.
