Adventure mode marriage/child birth
« on: May 30, 2013, 06:03:39 pm »

I think that being able to marry other npcs in adventure mode would be a cool feature. Also being able to get pregnant (if your char is a female) or get other women pregnant and have children that at a latter date you could control and play as them after or main adventurer passed away or retired. I just think it would be cool to have a lineage of adventures with history behind their name. It would also be neat if that your family has been around for quite a long time it could eventually be granted positions of power. But only if your ancestors have done stuff for the nobels and such. I just think after a long adventure, you should be able to settle down and have children then start adventuring with those children, or heck even start a fortress.
Tell me what you guys think cause I think the is a greate idea.

I think this is already doable (with some allowances) with DFhack.  Rumrusher has a link in his sig about "babymaking and you" while the command "adv-fort" allows an adventurer to set claim an area as a lair or fortress, then retire there.  When selected in Fortress mode, the adventurer can be included in the fortress population using "tweak makeown" (albeit as a pet if they aren't dwarves), and any children they have with others can be selected to become adventurers or even adventurer's companions if the fort is retired using the hack process for that.

Heck, if you happen to switch your adventurer to a "Wagon" using Dfhack, you can even lead your party of seven dwarves and two beasts of burden to a new embark site toting all the chosen embark materials from wherever you first got them in your "backpack".

Yeah I already knew about the baby making command bit it seems a little to... Instant. And the child also has no genetic father when doing this. It also seems to be very unreliable when make a new baby like that, I guess il share a story of my first time using this.
I created a new female adventure, I then proceeded to make her pregnante then after about 3 move sections she gave birth. The child had no name and was just called baby. So I then decided to give it a nickname and such. After that I retired the mother and when to go play as the child. I had only one choice to choose from and it was her. I was then like, oh well guess il make another baby. I then proceeded in doing that. I used a slow and not very effective way to speed up time. 5 years then passed and the new, had a name and all albeat a diff last name due to the last names not actually functioning as last names in df for some reson. The baby was now a child and I was able to take them out to adventure. I then proceeded and the child had abnormally high stats and attributes. I then found his mother, picked her up, and threw he into the wilderness. I had no idea we're she went but she survived it some how. I then proceeded to go around and ripping of cats heads with my feet and went and killed a Minotaur via pinching his toes and then his limbs. I then retired the child and found that the more was still alive when I attempted to make a new adventurer. I chose her and she was in very bad shape. Other decided, hey a couple baby's wont hert when your about to die, 5 children later she died of blood loss. All these children were normal accept 1 the youngest. I sped time up so the eldest was around 18 or so and the youngest was 12. I then set off in the kid due to this chields abnormal attributes. I then after deciding to fight some boogy men was jumped by, a create of the night that oddly had the same name as my adventures mother. I proceeded to fight it. It was a long and gruesome grapple fight but my child ended getting both legs torn off and a lung punctured. I was attempting to crawl away but know my life was going to end then suddenly in front of my person, a baby was sitting all alone in the forest. I was like wtf is that my baby, I then examine and it was just "Lisa" baby. I nicked the first baby that I attempted this with Lisa so I was freaked out. Then my person died. Pretty creepy sing your long lost glitched sister/daughter right before you die and they were still a baby. They should have been 18 years old or around that. Well I just thought I should share my experiences with using df hack but I would want a more authentic experience when it comes to children. I also think there should be away to speed up tame or continue to generate the world after its already made.
That's just my 2 cents.
Btw the speed time little workaround that I found is making a new fortress, embarking then abandoning it. It advances time 1 year each time you do it, the downside though is that it files the legends up with annoying sections of dwarfs running away and dieing in the nearby forests.
