Holy necromancy, batman!

In other news, Spiderweb Software has released the original Exile games for free, but good luck playing them on a modern system. They're programmed in 16-bits, so you need a virtual machine if you want to play them again. 64-bit operating systems need not try.

Certain versions of Windows 7 (Business and Ultimate I think) do have the option if running a pre-packaged Windows XP virtual machine from Microsoft. That's what I ended up doing and it works great.

They work through DOSBox within Windows 95/98, including on ARM devices. They've also been free for quite some time. Exile=Avernum in case you didn't know.

I can't wait til Avadon 2 is finished, so I can find out what Spiderweb will do next. I'm hoping it's Exile/Avernum related. Maybe a prequel or a sequel with playable Vahnatai characters and an actual living world, because the one in Exile3/Avernum3 was kind of let-down in that you basically had to purposely try and NOT beat the game in order for the monster plagues to destroy any cities.

And bring back Quickfire >_<

My one problem with Spiderweb Software is that they have a story they'd really like to tell... Three times now. Exile, Avernum and now Avernum: Escape from the Pit. It's a good story, but distaste for the graphics style of the later games aside, I can't justify buying the same game over and over.

Exile is free and the last release was quite well done on Android. Avernum complete is $12 on GOG. That's seven games. Take your pick of your fav version vs price point.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Apparently so.

I got just about all the Spiderweb games in their Humble Bundle a while back. I spent many hours playing a few of them, but they're just... too long. They're good games, but I don't have 100 hours to slowly push my way through the map, essentially doing the same thing over and over and over again. The story is good, but it needs a super-fast cheat mode or something, let me get through all those battles instantly so I can beat the game and get on with my life. Once I hit about 20 hours of play, I just got tired of it and went and found something else to do. The only games I can devote that much time to are sandboxy ones where I can be creative (like Starbound), and even then I need to take long, looong breaks now and then when I get sick of it. I tried taking a break from Avernum and going back, but I had forgotten everything that was going on, so I would have had to start over, so I just gave up.

I guess I'm too old for video games.

It does have a built in cheat. I think it's mostly a character editor that gives you free reign, although I could be wrong. It's been awhile since I used it..quite awhile. When the games first came out, actually. Back in the 90's.

Yeah, the give you the editor and you can make your lvl1 rookies already have god-like stats :P

It also allows teleportation and resetting your party's location in case of bugs or being stuck.

Also I have to boast that one time, I've accidentally guessed Avernum 2's registration code and it turned into full version. You wouldn't believe how happy/confused I was that I actually succeed with such haxxoring =D

THeres also several cheat mods for the geneforge games that turn one spot or another into a character editor/item spawner.

In Avernum: Escape From the Pit? I've never seen such a thing. Did I miss it somehow? That's the only one I invested any real time into.
What about Geneforge? I started the first one of those and enjoyed it, but just didn't have the time. Where are these editors?

In the new version it's right in the title screen. It's usually been in the title screen or in the game folder.

Unless they updated geneforge recently, you have to mod the geneforge ones in. This generally implies replacing one or more of the .txt files, but doesn't force you to do anything if you end up not wanting to use it.
Heres a list of them: 1 2 3 4 5

I never tried any for 2, but the rest I've used before.
