Where Did Artifact Go?

The first artifact we made, a gold pick, is missing. When I go to the artifacts menu it opens immediately into the other artifact's page; there's no artifact list.

Does this mean it was stolen? Is there someway I can know for sure what happened to it?

Will thieves put priority on stealing artifacts first?

Artifacts should never disappear from the artifact (l)ist screen - if an artifact does get stolen or destroyed, it just gets marked as "(Lost)" within that list.

Are you sure you aren't just playing a different fortress?

I'm positive. Although, it was made by a possessed dwarf, will that affect anything?

It's still an artifact, only difference is that the possessed dwarf doesn't get the XP bonus for making it.
