Butcher kills?
« on: May 20, 2013, 07:47:03 am »

Is there a way to butcher kills? Corpses seem to be ignored when killed by my army or my dogs. I got plenty of meat and other body parts for a while if only my dwarfs would bring it to the butcher. Hunters function as normal, kills from a hunter get butchered normally.

The corpses must be close enough to the butcher's workshop to be processed. Set up a refuse stockpile accepting corpses (and possibly body parts) near the butcher, and set the 'o'rders so that dwarfs collect 'outside' (aboveground) refuse: o(rders)-r(efuse)-o(utside refuse collection). You might wish to disallow all or most other refuse types and some 'unbutcherable' corpses, to avoid your beards filling the pile with single loose teeth, unusable wool and bones and similar nonsense.

Corpses also need to be of a minimum size to be processed - animals too small to give meat will not be butchered at all - chinchillas, ravens, ducks etc. Those will sit unused in the stockpile forever.
