I see them making a beeline for the trade depot, and trying to hide inside the fortress until the big bad goblins go away.

(Then promptly complain about your cutting down the trees, to make the drawbridge that just saved their miserable hippy lives.)

Faling that, there will be a few who's hubris has completely overwhelmed their prion disease addled brains, who feel there is no way that they can't win, and who rush in boistrously waving their "mighty" wooden weapons ferociously.

Ahh... Elves.

The mightiest of their numbers usually turn out to be horses, donkeys and camels.

The Depot is unprotected

As an unexpected benefit, I was able to atom smash the invaders drawn to my trade depot. A lot. The trolls took several smashings.  I'm tempted to name my chief lever puller Hulk

Aww, those fortifications in your tunnel prevent usable magma flooding. Shame.

I suppose it'd work fine if you just magma'd the elves though.
