Stretching
« on: May 29, 2013, 02:13:04 pm »

Something just hit me. Cold Stretching, can't I shove it in between the times I die on Dota2, or other long-term games? I could just put my leg in a way that it stretches itself while playing, that way I won't focus so much on the sore-y-ness from stretching. I've never been that flexible and last summer I used to stretch whenever I had the time, in the car, during class, anytime. Didn't help enough what I did except that I was able to sit in that meditation pose.

Which kind of 'passive' stretches are there that I could use while playing games? Like Dota2?

you could get one of those "Thigh blaster" thingys to put betwix your legs and squeeze.

or better yet just get some rubber ties or surgical rubber and tie it around your legs like an elastic and pull your legs apart. this would help. but more for muscle tone not stretchyness.

Most obvious answer: spread your legs, knees apart. If your computer desk permits, scoot your butt and torso in, put your knees up against the desk, while keeping your back straight. Extra credit: sit on the edge of your chair, straighten your legs and pull your toes back while gently applying dynamic tension with your legs into the ground. Don't forget to keep the toes pulled up and back away from the desk.

The kind of stretches that would require a bit more time aren't the type you want to do cold. You want to do more serious stretches after some light exercise, just enough to get the heart beating a little quicker.
If you want to build flexibility, time between DoTA games isn't going to cut it. You are going to need to set aside about fifteen to twenty minutes twice a day. However, there are some good exercises to do between games. Most importantly would be to find some good eye exercises, neck and back would also be good. Flexing your hands will help redude the risk of RSI.
