Has anyone played this thing?  I remember looking at it when it came out a few years back, but never picked it up.  It seemed to have good community and mod support, and looked like the best sci-fi mixed-unit tactical skirmish game that I'd ever seen.

Unfortunately, it got some mediocre reviews and it seems to have all dried up.  It sort of looks like a gritty version of Tribes without all the bouncing and lasers, and more tanks and such.  It sort of reminds me of what a (classic) battletech armored company (think McCarron's Armored Cavalry) would be like, or some "Hammer's Slammers" sort of action.

Anybody know how to buy a copy?  or if there are any communities that might still play it?  This is probably the wrong place to ask, but I'm only really registered on two game communities  on the whole internets -- and nobody visits the Space Empires forums anymore.
