Adventuring the evil surroundings...
« on: April 29, 2013, 06:17:31 pm »

So I thought it would be fun to go to my local evil area to see what fucked up shit I could find.

Now, I'm not scared of bugs, but sometimes they gross me out. So you have to imagine my horror when some of the first things I find are GIANT FUCKING MOSQUITOES and disgusting thrips men. Another terrifying thing I found was a cloud of smoke called a "devilish gloom". Now, I've never seen something like this before so, it being dwarf fortress, I instantly assumed it wanted me dead. However, I also thought it could just be smoke around a lair or something so I walked through. I got a fever and started bleeding from my foot and hips. Now I am running away from a seemingly sentient and malevolent cloud of death. An average day in Dwarf Fortress I suppose.

Has anyone else found messed up shit like this in adventure mode? I'm interested in hearing all your experiences.

Never had evil fog. The most I've ever seen is blood rain. goblin blood the first time when I was running from harpies. After I modded certain animals to be playable in adventure mode i learned that it will rain blood from those too. Squidman blood turns  everything a nice shade of blue.

evil rain does nothing most of the time, otherwise just a mild annoyance. Every undead is out to get you if youre still living. If you arent still living then evil biomes are mostly safer, unless the ogres, trolls, harpies, and beak dogs are not undead. Evil clouds give anything from annoying syndromes like swelling to instantly bleeding to death, to instant necrosis, to turning you into a husk; "live" (or undead) test subjects for clouds are advised.

I've been hoping to find evil biomes in worlds of mine, but I'm usually killed by means of goblin/kobold zerg rush if I spend any significant amount of time away from towns.

I wish to have a husky: a husk werewolf. That is what I will need to consider myself "winning" at DF adventure mode. How do I find evil clouds in adventure mode? Are they just the clouds that hover over the map in fast travel, or do I gotta wait for them to appear in adventurer mode? Will just standing and resting work?

they appear repentinely when you are in a evil zone... i suggest you to throw something in the cloud using wrestling moves(dwarfier) or bring companious and roam near them. Then check what happens to them.
