(SG) The War (Prologue)
« on: May 04, 2013, 03:30:51 pm »

The rescue mission was a disaster, what was supposed to be a routine retrieval mission turned into a drawn out blood bath with an alien race. Now as you watch the ships descend you begin to run through the events leading up today.

It started so innocently and low key, a Colonel arriving from the volume office to inspect the system defense forces. An expedition to a planet several hundred light years had disappeared and you were asked to find it. After deploying drones to the system you quickly located a wreck above desert like planet, along with the black box, so the SDF offered to take you along as an observer, which you of course excepted. On board your cruiser that brought you, you watched the general give a briefing to the officers.

After this you have a turn until you are in range of the planet, then you will launch shuttles. Of course you will end up on that planet, but you don't  know that yet.

Okay, that sounds interesting. Can we have some details on the planet itself? And the expedition we're attempting to save (if it's not classified...). Also, a brief rundown on our ship's characteristics would be cool.

The planet it is unremarkable desert like planet, with a very rocky surface. The expedition was to go down and see if there  was anything of note that hadn't been seen in orbit. The ship will be taking a beating in a turn and that is when I would give you a list of what it had, but here are the things that will be relevant, ie. be useful on the planet.

5000 soldiers, their SDF so they aren't that good, but that isn't to say they are incompetent, just less then what somebody from the volume office is used to dealing with.

1500 technical staff

500 ship personnel

6 fabricators and feed stock

20 aerospace shuttles

50 drones

4 launch tubes for vehicles

2 FTL communicators, one powerful but relatively delicate one, and a second slower but rugged version for emergency.

Sooo... Go to the bridge and watch the mission pathetically fail in a particularly explodey fashion?

Well you pull up into an orbit around the planet narration go:

As we began to orbit missiles streaked up from the planets surface, none of the hit on the ascent, but as they passed the missiles began to turn to strike the ship. The impact put us into the atmosphere before we could react, so when we could react we braced for impact, kinetic manipulation systems kicked in to slow our descent and to manage it. The impact still did a number but the ship was still intact, but it probably wouldn't fly again.

As I picked myself up from the wreckage, I pinged for the general, I got a response, life support system readings and bio-metrics poured in, he was dead, I am now the highest ranking officer.

Is staying in the ship dangerous?
