Anyone play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC recently? Problems running it.
« on: August 29, 2014, 10:17:09 pm »

So my googling ability has failed, and I am in a very odd spot that I cannot find a single answer to. Not even an example.

I downloaded STALKER SoC on steam, but am getting first those annoying shortcuts that don't actually link to anything and give an error message and have a symbol like the earth.

So I use the .exe directly, and it either tells me that I am missing the xrSound.dll file, and while I can find tons of advice to replace it, I cannot find anyone who has said that it's there. Yep, somehow the .exe is not reading the file right next to it.

Sometimes I get this message too....

?exist@CLocatorAPI@@QAEPBUfile@1@AAY0CAI@DPBD11@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library xrcore.dll

Someone please help me, I want to play this game.

My installation has both of those .dll files within the bin directory. While I'm guessing you've seen this already, I would suggest to get Steam to do a "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" to see whether it'll try and download those files, if they are missing of course.

As for the second error, I really have no idea what that's saying, sorry. Though if the xrCore.dll file is missing, it's probably a generic error from the game failing to read the missing file.

I have a feeling xrcore is a central part of the engine, so as mentioned definitely verify first. If not, (as lazy as this advice is) I'd just do a fresh install - sometimes things just don't go in the registry properly.

Well I've already installed it twice.... How many times do I have to do this? :(

I know it's a rather generic answer to a problem. Other than what I suggested above, you could look to see whether someone's uploaded those .dll files, but that also comes with having to navigate through websites that hold malicious software (.dll files are used by lots of programs and problems with them are common enough that people take advantage of that). Look for a link someone has posted in a forum rather than a website called something like "Fix DLL Error.com"

You could look on ModDB and download the "S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Lost Alpha" mod. It is rather different from normal S.T.A.L.K.E.R, but it adds lots of things that weren't included in the final release, as well as improved graphics and bug fixes. It is a stand alone mod so you don't need "S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl" to play it. You could see whether "Lost Alpha" has the .dll files in it's folder once it's installed.

Of course, I don't know what your internet plan is, so maybe downloading a 8gb mod isn't very feasible.

Well replacing the files didn't do anything, but I kept redownloading it, and it worked. Wtf steam.

Thanks everybody.
