Broken bones in a garbage dump. Help?
« on: April 26, 2013, 01:00:33 pm »

So I picked up the DF2012, and decided to give it a shot. So far, everything is working well, except my garbage dumps.
I've been using quantum stone storage, and in three out of three of my fortresses so far, someone (usually a miner) gets a broken limb near the garbage dump. The bottom of the dump is coated in blood, but I'm not sure what's causing it, or how to stop it from happening. Right now my miner is sitting in a hospital bed, waiting for us to grow some threads.

If this all doesn't fix it, your dwarfs are lazy. Apply magma.

Falling items now cause damage.

Minecarts would likely be your best bet for safer dumping/quantum stockpiling, and they're less micro intensive to boot.

Also be careful dropping items into magma for disposal; magma mist will now splash up and can ignite the haulers. They'll be safe from the mist if they drop the items from high enough.

Alternatively, pump the magma onto the items to be disposed instead of dumping into the magma itself.

I must admit I was expecting to see a thread about someone dumping their dwarfs broken-bones down the garbage chute and trying to build new ones for them.

Does that mean you shouldn't listen to my pervious sentence and infact listen to everything I say?

The wiki should be updated
Saying "the wiki should be updated" doesn't really help anyone update it. Any chance you can link to the incorrect pages?

Also, it's a wiki, so you could always update it yourself.
