Computer Problems- Changing Drive Letter
« on: May 28, 2013, 10:52:52 pm »

I just replaced a hard drive on a friend's computer, after the old one crashed. Unfortunately the letter of the drive has defaulted to H:\, which isn't ideal- I'd rather it be C:\, since my friend doesn't want to change the default install path of everything ever (not being much of a computer person).

I've looked at how to change this and I see a means to do so which is just manipulating registries- which seems kind of silly if I've formatted the entire drive and done a new Windows install. Is there another way to do this? I'm not sure if I accidentally missed it installing windows the first time.

Have you tried disk management? What OS are you even running here?

Have you tried disk management?
As somebody who manages three temperamental hard drives, this.

I tried disk management- but, as the only drive and therefore the one I'm booting off of, it wouldn't allow me to change the letter.

Curiously, it shows up as C: when I'm formatting from the boot disk.

Edit: Formatting it again left it as H. Formatting again made it C.

Problem solved. Don't know why, but it's solved.
