Whichever one doesn't come with a price tag large enough to bankrupt your nation.

Considering the state of the US economy, my only options are a) a jar of underhive ash paint, or b) a pocket rulebook. Oh well, back to D&D.

Might be a good idea.  Seriously, the prices that Games Workshop charges for their models would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Anyway, I'm not sure what starter sets they even have these days, but if you know someone else who wants to play and the two of you think you'd like the armies involved, there's usually a boxed set that comes with the rule book, the army book and a start army for two armies.  I guess they have several of these for the latest edition?  I'm not sure.  I stopped playing in 5th edition.

From what I recall, it's usually some flavor of space marines vs. something.  They did Imperial Guard vs. something one time recently I think.  There's really no right or wrong answer here, because the armies are designed to cost about the same to start.

How do you make a small fortune playing WH40k? Start with a large one.

Other than that I have nothing to add to this thread.

I think this is the current starter kit.

$100 USD seems about right for what GWS charges for these things. It's 48 figs and a mini-core rulebook.

Other than that, I think you're SOL on starter kits, as I highly doubt GWS makes older ones available for sale. Your only other recourse besides Ebay would be local gaming stores where they might have one of the older kits that never sold.
