Snow melting

It would be nice if snow melt like rain falls...
Tile by tile I mean.

Hmm. Yeah, it would definitely look better than all of the snow and ice melting in one frame.

If there are sufficient levels of snow it should also flood the rivers and pools.

Yeah, seasonal flooding would be great. Like aquifers that are active only in the spring.

It would be cool if a layer of ice would form on the surface of rivers and lakes before they get frozen solid.

Of course, Seasonal run off should happen in the late winter/early spring.... Not daily.

True, but wells don't usually dry out through the year in most places, so year round aquifers have a place.

And if in constantly-frozen biomes with regular snow, glaciers would form or grow.

But yes, freezing and thawing as gradual processes instead of one-frame flash events would feel more natural _and_ might be less hazardous to fortress denizens and adventurers. Although a true dwarf would still brazenly stroll out onto a too-thin-and-slowly-melting ice crust if there was a !!XCave spider silk sockX!! to have.

I could see how that works.

Water tile next to supported structure: Becomes ice.

Small amounts of water (such as on the surface) would become ice floors and support other ice floors, while ice walls would support the more natural growth of other ice walls.

Melting it all in a way that wouldn't cause cave ins on the other hand might be a bit more difficult to figure out.

Make ice be supported by water? It floats, after all.

Or just have ice VERY slowly freeze up instead of becoming the next frozen caveman within one second
