Magma mist and dwarf thoughts
« on: March 14, 2013, 08:01:47 pm »

In the rare event that a dwarf isn't harmed by magma mist, do they get a thought from exposure? And is it a good thought, or a bad thought?

The only "flows" that generate thoughts are Miasma (bad), Mist (good), Smoke (bad), and Material Dust (bad) - the others (Steam, Magma Mist, Dragonfire, Fire, Web, Material Gas, Material Vapor, Ocean Wave, and Sea Foam) don't give any thoughts.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Hmm.  Is it known what (if anything) happens when regular mist and magma mist collide?  No water+magma interaction, just the mists.

I'm pretty sure nothing at all happens, and a quick test with DFHack confirms that this is the case.

In fact, I don't know that any flows interact with each other in any way...

I guess the next important question is whether there's any practical way to fireproof dwarfs by careful controlled melting of fat, in Fortress mode.  A fortress with major intersections and gathering places full of magma mist, and dwarfs who don't care, could be an amusing surprise for invaders.
