Blatant lack of any sort of animals.
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:43:04 pm »

Been wondering this for a while, when reading epic tales of people caging up every sort of animal everywhere.
Taming the beasts into epic war animals.
I usually embark in a 3x3 and hardly ever do I see anything that can be tamed.
Been noticing a lack of animals in every embark I go into.

Any way to make more animals appear Ie. Bears, pandas, war animals of the sort.
Any raw edits, Mods, embark suggestions?

No raw edits change the rate of activity, but embark size does seem to change the number of herds active at once, at least to a small degree.

Because of this, you can make headway by slaughtering mundane herds.  Send the crossbows after those squirrels, watch a herd of elephants take their place.

Any embark suggestions for sites that would contain a larger amount of war trainable animals off the get-go?
I usually like to embark with a hunter, and a few cage traps so I'm ready whenever something does show up.

Well, for modding there, you can add...  ah, what's the tag...  UBIQUITOUS!  "Creature will occur in every region with the correct biome. Does not apply to evil/good tags. "  Without the tag, the creature usually spawns.  With the tag, the creature is always found in its home biome.  When trying to generate zombie unicorns, it helped to make them ubiquitous.  They would sometimes spawn, sometimes not, even on good biomes, but with the added tag, they always came in every good biome.

Slap it on animals you want, go to that biome, and wait.

Where do you find all this information for what to add to raws and such?
I dig through the wiki quite frequently, but some members here seem to be RAW masters.

Added note, is there some kind of resource of every Raw with an explanation of what the raw does and where it can be added?

Koganusan. May you always be a destination for adventurers, a reminder for dorf children, Emperor Sankis and cheese.

Try digging into caverns.  Maybe you'll find something fun there.
