Questions about becoming the Mountainhome
« on: February 23, 2013, 10:56:42 am »

1. If you abandon, does the mountainhome become abandoned or does your fortress just keep going?
2. If 1 says the fortress keeps going, can I retire adventurers there?

Is this freshwater or saltwater? Because alternatively you could breed a large amount of crocodiles and unleash them into the waters... indirect genocide.

An abandoned fortress is exactly that, abandoned.  An adventurer will find all the remaining stocks there, along with any creatures that have moved in, though.  Workshops will NOT be available for use, in fact I think they disassemble apparently, they become forbidden.  Either way, they're not usable not usable in adventure mode. (Edit note: done to clarify and correct myself. thnx L.W.)

Also, if it gets overrun and the settlement dies while turtled, you may not be able to enter.  On the safe side, I now build a lever outside the fort just in case.

I've always wondered something else about the Mountainhomes: If they fall with your queen/king inside, and there are no heirs, what happens?

Follow up question similar to Ringsea's. If you abandon normally (not during a siege) does the original mountainhome become the mountainhome home again? If I do another for on the same world can I attract the queen / king again?

Yes.  I have had successive forts in the same dwarven civilization become the Mountainhome and end up attracting the same monarch.

Workshops become forbidden, they do not disassemble. All you need to do is unforbid them with with (t) or (d) (b) (c).

Sorry 'bout that.  While reading this forum, sometimes facts get confused with non-facts and the wrong stuff sticks.  Also, I was assuming he was curious about revisiting in adventure mode.

Sorry for what? People are people! Though yeah as of yet adventurers can't use workshops. Items that get forbidden and kept in workshops can be picked up by standing on the center though - useful for storing artifacts your adventurer may want to pick up.
