Buying Scarves
« on: March 03, 2013, 06:17:22 pm »

Since winter is almost over, I figured I may as well buy some winter stuff. All the stores around here are sold out, and my search of the internet hasn't brought me to what I want. If anyone could point me to somewhere I could buy a knitted and long scarves? Tightly knitted and I can buy a sky blue one. I'm in the US, in case you find a company not here that doesn't ship internationally. Hopefully you guys can help me.
Edit: Fixed some weird wording.

With a year to figure it out, you could make your own.

Dude, if it's just "make a simple scarf," that doesn't take a year to figure out.  It's not exactly rocket science, especially if you have someone to help you cast on.

Vector, I think you misunderstand the value of the 'simple' scarf.

You see, within hipster tribes, the scarf is a measure of authority. The greater the scarfs length, the more respect one earns. It may very well take a life time to complete the kind of scarf that marks a tribal leader. I imagine within a year one might be able to produce a scarf long enough to not get fair trade coffee thrown at oneself, if one works quickly and regularly.

With great scarf, comes great responsibility.

The Scout, if I were you'd I'd take the opportunity to make my own, to be honest. Have you tried any local markets? :)

I have. Winter sales have ended and they've gotten rid of all the mens scarves. Learning how to knit isn't... exactly how I would use my time, since buying them would be quicker and they'd be of better quality.

Are you going for a normal wool scarf or a ☼SCARF☼ ?
In the second case you can look for something a bit more expensive but sharper, like a mixed silk / cashmire scarf. Probably shops with brands (like polo) should still have some stocks left.

I'd recommend cashmere over silk, it tends to have some give and stretch in it.  Of course, something I've found with scarves is that nothing beats a plain wool one, if you are not the type to get itchy over wool.

Hey, just because Winter is ending doesn't mean Scarf season ends. For the British spring and autumn I still swear by the Keffiyeh. Thin enough to not warm you up too much, but it helps keep out the cold breezes. And looks pretty damn classy when behind certain kinds of coats (such as a leather jacket).

There's also more classic "spring scarves" made of thinner material. Whilst women can usually get away with them easily, they only really look good on a man in a blazer ^^ On a related tangent: Blazers are awesome.

Eh. Personally blazers have always been a bit of a disappointment.
I mean, you hear the name, it's a garment, and it sounds like some insanely badass leather greatcoat that shoots fire from the sleeves or something. But nope. Just a jacket. :-[

I was so, so disappointed...
