Claiming goblinite?
« on: January 30, 2013, 04:16:51 pm »

I can't seem to convince DF to automatically claim goblinite, and as a result i'm continually forced to manually claim all objects.

I know about the order-forbid commands. I've had to it set to claim everything and anything before, and any new goblins that die still need to be manually claimed -anyway-.

What's going on here?

You can't set it to auto-claim goblinite. Goblinite is by default forbidden when it comes on the map. What you can do is do a mass reclaim on the area that the goblinite is in though (d-b-c).

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

It can also be reclaimed through the stocks menu. Doing it through the stocks menu may work better if goblinite is scattered all over the place. Doing a mass reclaim designation works better if its all in the same area.

Does reclaiming it through the stocks menu require a bookkeeper?

By default, if you want to find things in the stocks menu, it requires the highest level of precision on the bookkeeping.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

That only works for body parts, not weapons, armor, or clothing items.

You can't set it to auto-claim goblinite. Goblinite is by default forbidden when it comes on the map. What you can do is do a mass reclaim on the area that the goblinite is in though (d-b-c).

EDIT:  Do i2amroy's mass reclaim before doing any of the below, or they'll ignore everything even though it's marked for dumping/melting.

If you're only interested in the metal, and you're dumping everything else, then you can do a mass dump (d-b-d).  AFTER the mass dump, do a mass melt (d-b-m I believe) and the melt will override the dump on all metal items, while all the cloth and body parts will still get dumped.

Just be careful of any cages you want to keep, as the mass dump/melt will mark your cages as well, even if they're set up inside of cage traps.  And if any dwarves are in the area you set, their entire inventory will be affected, so do it before you unleash your hauler horde.

This also has the convenient effect of stripping all items currently in the inventory of goblins in cage traps (but again, remember to un-mark the cages themselves afterward).
