So a thing happened...
« on: February 04, 2013, 03:40:03 am »

So my fortress was minding its own business, and suddenly, TITAN!  Or at least, I thought it was a titan...

So yeah, naked dwarf shows up and walks up to my front gate.

And my hunter decides to shoot him to death.

Oh, and apparently he was a building destroyer, because my depot is now gone.

it looks like he was a werebeast, but for some reason either didn't transform but was still agressive or he turned back on death which changed all the logs to show what he really was.

Could have been.  The screenshots were taken while he was still alive, however, so it's not a matter of the logs reverting.  Didn't seem aggressive either, as he kind of just sat there and got shot a lot.

He was a werebeast. They appear on full moon. It's possible that he showed up the second the full moon vanished, and as such
transformed back into the being he was before he got infected.
In other words you've gotten quite a lucky shoot.

It is very common that they show up as werebeasts, attack something or someone and then turn back. Whats important is to note that if they attack a dwarf, s/he might turn into a werebeast later on (specifically I think they need to bite the dwarf in order to subject them to the syndrome that turns them into a werebeast). Also if you let them be they can come back the next full moon.

A bite that draws blood. Typically it is important to check the logs; Dwarves can be bitten and not be infected (with even cloth sometimes blocking bits) yet still be wounded, typically from bruises or broken bones.
If the were-beast successfully bites and tears at a Dwarf, they are definitely infected.
