I am glad a webcomic was linked. Order of the stick ho!
Not that webcomic.

The closest thing is Ironwood

In dungeons and dragons Ironwood is metal attuned to nature. It actually isn't wood.

Quote
are there rules anywhere on the differences between iron and steel weapons?

Yes, but that is in the DMG and hard to find. It even has rules on bones, rock, and bronze being used for weapons.

Part of why I suggested wood be magical...

Naw, if it is magical it should be enchanted, not extracted.

OP: Please rename this thread "Elf-Kosher Wood". You can do that by editing the first post. That should stop people from arguing about magic.

I have a 3.5 PHB and DMG that says otherwise.

Page 144, gives rules for bone, stone and bronze weapons. No evidence of iron/steel.

The title. Look up. "Enchanted."
Besides, the two aren't mutually exclusive.
