I definitely recommend the 1.13 mod as well. It might be a little overwhelming as you start out, but it adds so much depth to the game.

Just don't enable the Drassen Counterattack until you know what you're doing

I *always* take a female IMP because of the awful male voices.  I usually use #3 ("Let's pop some zits").
